WBL Workshop #3

The third WBL workshop was about finding out what career types would be best for us. The way we did this was by going to Virtual Job Shadow and taking the O Net Interest Profiler survey, something that would help us figure out our career cluster, or a group of careers best for us based on our answers to the survey. People are grouped based on their suitability for six different categories of occupations: Artistic, Conventional, Enterprising, Investigative, Realistic, and Social. Questions asked things such as if we liked teaching young kids or if we were interested about astronomy, questions that were meant to see what type of person we were. After finishing the survey, we got a code telling us what our top 3 occupational categories were and explored the different types of jobs we could get relating to our code.
The code I got from the survey was CIE: Conventional, Investigative, and Enterprising. Some of the potential careers under these categories include software designer, computer architect, senator, city planner, manager, etc. My interests in career were always in tech, so jobs like software engineer and computer architect entice me the most. Based on my results, I'm also more confident in getting a CS major in college. Based on my research, the careers I want require a bachelor's degree in CS and a lot of what CS covers in college prepares you for these types of jobs. This survey overall helped me confirm things about my own higher education and career interests I already knew, being that I would be going into tech.
