WBL Workshop #1

     WBL (Work Based Learning) gives students an opportunity to learn career skills in school that they can use to be successful in getting and keeping a real job/career. CTE and WBL go hand in hand as both relate to developing real world skills, so it is no surprise that Web Design, a CTE course, involves WBL. In Web Design there are 54 units of WBL which include are 30 hours of community service, internships, workshops, CTE Expos, seminars, resume building, and guest speakers. Opportunities to complete these requirements come throughout the year and it is up to the student to take it and move foward towards graduation.
     I have completed 2 years of Web Design and I am up to the final, meaning I have a lot of requirements under my belt. One of my most important achievements during my time is doing a paid internship, something that put me into a professional setting where I practiced the skills I already had and gain new skills. It allowed me to see how work was really like real world and helped prepare me for job after high school. Other requirements I have completed are building my resume, attending seminars, and listening to guest speakers. Out of all 54 units of WBL, I have completed all but 7, being the senior CTE Expo, senior CTE trip, senior WEB profile, senior career day, senior portfolio, senior CFM course, and 30hrs community service. Seeing as how all but one of these things relate to senior year, it is my duty going forward throughout this year to complete these requirements while it is also my responsibility to get 30hrs of community service done as the year goes on as well.
